The Ministry of Education is offering large number of scholarships to support studies of students both at School and College levels. The Ministry of Human Resources and Development is an independent body that looks after education Sector in India. Among its several initiatives it offers a large number of scholarships to students to support the student studies both at School and College levels.

1. Central Sector Scholar ship Scheme for College and University Students:  This Scheme is meant for Class 12 Passed students who are studying in college or university. The Key objective of this scholarship scheme is to support meritorious students Financially who are coming for weaker sections of the society to pursue their higher studies. Students with more than 80 Percent in Class 12 or equivalent examination can avail benefits in this scheme.  The Annual Family Income must not exceed Rs 8 Lakh from all sources.

Number of Scholarships: 82,000 Fresh Scholarships per annum.

Eligibility: Class 12 Passed Students

Awards: Rs 10,000 to 20,000 Per Annum

Application Timeline: Between August and October (Tentative)

Application Mode: Online through the National Scholar Ship Portal  (NSP)

2. National Means Cum Merit Scholarship: This Scheme is meant for meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections who are finding to difficult to support their education after Class 8. In order to prevent students from dropping out and encourage them to continue their studies Students are provided with Scholarship of Rs 12,000 Annually.

Students who are currently studying in Class 9 and have secured at least 55 percent marks or equivalent in class 8 examination can avail benefits under this Scheme. In order to appear for the selection test students need to secure at least 55 percent of marks or equivalent grade in class 7 exam. Moreover the annual income of the family must be less than Rs 1.50 Lakh from all sources.

Number of Scholarships: 1 Lakh

Eligibility: Class 9 Students

Awards: Rs 12,000 per Annum.

3. AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girls: This Scholarship Scheme is to empower young girls with Knowledge,Skills and Self-Confidence. Girl Studens who are currently pursuing the First or Second year (Through Lateral Entry) of Technical Degree / Diploma Course on the basis of the marks obtained in class 10+2 or equivalent exam can avail the benefits of the scheme. The Annual Family Income must not exceed Rs 8 Lakh from all sources. Up to Two girls per family are eligible to apply and receive this Pragati Scholarship Scheme.

Number of Scholarships: 5,000

Eligibility: Girl Students studying First Year of Technical Degree or Diploma Course. 

Awards: Upto Rs 50,000 per annum and other benefits

Application Time Line: Between September and October (Tentative)

Application Mode: Online through the National Scholar Ship Portal  (NSP)

4. AICTE Saksham Scholarship Scheme: This Scheme aims to promote Technical Education among Differently-abled Students. It is mainly for Specially-abled students who are pursuing the Technical Degree/ Diploma Course from Recognized Institution can avail benefits. Students having not less than 40% disability can avail benefits under this scheme. They must be admitted to the first year degree or Diploma course or Second year degree/diploma course( through  Lateral Entry) in any AICTE Approved institution.The Annual Family Income must not exceed Rs 8 Lakh from all sources.

Number of Scholarships: All eligible specially abled students will get the scholarship

Eligibility:  Differently abled students in first year/diploma course

Awards: Up to Rs 50,000 Per annum and other benefits

Application Time Line: Between September and October (Tentative)

Application Mode: Online through the National Scholar Ship Portal  (NSP)

5. Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF): PMRF's main aim is to promote Technical research studies among Students. This scheme attracts meritorious students to pursue doctoral programmes at Leading institutions in India. The Institutions include IISC/IISERs/IITs and central universities. The Students who apply for PhD Program at PMRF Institutions can apply either through directly or lateral entry. They need to have minimum qualifications that are specified in the guidelines.

Number of Scholarships: Not Specified

Eligibility: BTech/ Final year BTech/Integrated BTech, Integrated MSc from IIIT/IISER/NIT/IIT/IISC

Awards:Stipend of up to Rs 80,000 Per Month and other benefits

Application Time Line: Round the Year ( For this academic year)

Application Mode: Apply for a PhD Program at one of the PMRF Granting institutions
