BML Munjal University (BMU), a leading Search and Consulting firm announced the new findings in a survey about the views of the Lawyers Profession and identifies the relevant skills required in a rapid legal environment titled "Decoding the Next-Gen Legal Professional".

This Survey Primarily informs students who are seeking a career in the Legal profession. It also aims to provide reliable information on the future of Legal Practice along with the necessary skills required that value one's career. This Survey also highlights the skills gap in Legal Education.
The Key Findings from the Survey:
1. There is increasing use of digitization and Tech Innovations in this Sector (90%)
2. 20% of Legal work could be taken over by the Latest technology (such as AI) tools in the next 3 to 5 years. (42%)
3. The ability to understand and anticipate the client's needs would be the most sought skill in the next 3-5 years followed by Technical Proficiency. (81%)
4. Commercial Awareness would become the key essential skill in the next 3 to 5 years. (71%)
5. The Fundamentals of Law Subjects and Programs with the direct application is important (76%)
6. Law Practice is becoming more global with the increasing importance of international educations and qualifications (36%).
The above report clearly says that the Legal Profession is in the midst of significant transformation. With the increasing client demands, career expectations, Automations, and Latest Technological Innovations will accelerate the Legal Profession. The Entry-level positions in Legal Sector will be taken over by Latest Technology Automation. It is very much essential for Lawyers to keep up to date with Latest Technological Developments and sharpen their skills for a prosperous career.
The Report also discusses the Important qualities that lawyers should possess to be relevant and in demand. As per the report, Research and Analytics(94%) play a key role along with the sharp eye of accuracy(93%), the ability to work hard(71%), An openness to learn (72%), and oral communication (88%). The Top Skills required for Lawyers to survive and thrive in the competitive legal industry are Understanding the Client's needs (81%), Technology Proficiency (74%), Commercial awareness (71%), and Time Management (57%).
Almost 76% of people say that young Lawyers need to emphasize more on hands-on Practical Training in contract drafting, pleading, and procedures that will help them in realtime along with building basic fundamentals in Law. Young lawyers need to focus on Time Management, Research Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Business Communication Skills, and people management. Law Schools play a critical role in developing young and dynamic lawyers who are equipped with the skills and attitudes required for modern legal practice. Young Lawyers need to embrace the latest technological changes and skillsets that are required for the Modern Era.
