The heart of any business success lies in undertaking projects and programs. Most of the businesses or organizations run on a day-to-day basis by trying to achieve a specific goal. All these goals are set in the form of Projects.The combination of such projects together is called as a Program.

PROGRAM MANAGER Vs PROJECT MANAGER

Behind every project success there is a project manager who look after an executes the entire process with the help of dedicated team to ensure they met the specific goals. A program manager is one who networks and navigates plenty of such projects. Both project manager and program manager are like two sides of the same coin. The roles and responsibilities of both looks identical in nature but their work vary quite a bit and both will play valuable roles in their respective positions

PROGRAM MANAGER

A Program Manager has a visionary skill set role and  oversees many individual projects that contribute to long term goal achievement of an organization or business growth. He will look after the entire operational process of all the projects that needs to be delivered in a stipulated time frame that adds value  by making several distinct contributions.

A Program manager need to assess the schedule plans, corrections and adjustment, potential barriers in the execution process and also need to analyze the chances of success or failure in achieving organizational or business goals. The Tasks handled by Program Managers are Strategic in Nature. The Scope for Program Manager is larger as they have to handle multiple units at a time.

A Program Manager works towards an outcome.The role of program manager includes coordinating with project managers regarding scheduling, planning and budget estimations.for the successful execution and completion of projects. A Program Manager is concerned with receiving goals or results as attained by project manager. A Program Manager success is measured if the program meets the objectives.

Maintaining the status queue of multiple projects and ensure that each one is moving ahead towards accomplishing the business or organizational goals. Expedite open and honest communication for the smooth execution of projects..

SKILLS REQUIRED;

In order to maintain program initiatives effectively and efficiently  for the successful execution and delivery the program manager has to cultivate the following skills  

1. Quickly identifying the best resources and allocate them in the project is the first and foremost skill of program manager. He need to prepare specific contingent resource management plans that addresses  the issues that may arise so that operations will continue with out any hurdles.

2. Need to equip with various tools like Monitoring Change, Milestone Mapping and Process Planning techniques while managing a program cycle. 

3. Must Possess exceptional Negotiation Skills  for getting your program approved and running smoothly and to sell their vision to clients

4. Must be able to collect and integrate different kinds of analytical data     like statistical data, financial data and informative data for the proper and smooth execution of project.

 PROJECT MANAGER

A Project Manager is a person who handles individual projects that helps to commit the organization or business goals. The duration of the projects the project managers handle are short and specific and the area of operation is limited to single unit. They have stipulated deadlines and properly defined objectives that must be met to keep the momentum forward. The area of concern for a project manager is to attain goals and deliver results. A Project Manager focuses on producing an output.

Project Managers will manage the team and oversees that the project is properly executed on time by following specific strategies. They will prepare and give periodic reports and updates to program manager regarding the progress of the projects. The tasks handled by Project Managers are Technical in nature. A Project Manager's success can be measured in terms of customer satisfaction, cost-effectiveness and quality of product.

The Project Managers have to handle the extent of works that include Resource Acquisition (tools, budgets, Human Resources) for the projects, Maintaining effective communication between teams and also with program manager and give timely regular updates. Ensuring the smooth execution of project in a positive progressive way by clearing all the issues arise in the process.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

In order to become a great project manager a person must possess the following skills

1.Leadership skills are essential for smooth run of a project.Leader need to have supervision and guidance along with identification of strengths and weakness of an individual who is working in the project. It also helps individual to assign specific tasks so as to attain maximum productivity.

2. A project manager must be able to provide communication among team members to build intimacy so that synergy relationships are built in order for a team to work efficiently together.

3. Must possess Risk management skills so that they can bound to meet the challenges and  help the team to overcome the obstacles.

4.Need to have superior organizational and multifaceted planning skills so that he will help the team with all major aspects like Duration, Team coordination, Deadlines, Budgetary estimates, progress tracking, milestone documentation so that everything will go in a right way.
