The National Education Day is celebrated annually in India on November 11 as it marks the birth anniversary of our first education minister of India after Independence Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Abdul Kalam Ghulam.

Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al Hussaini Azad was born on November 11,1888 and he was a writer, Indian Independence activist and senior leader of Indian national congress. After India got Independence he became the first Education Minister in the Indian government. He served as the education minister for more than 10 years from August 15 1947 till February 2, 1958. He passed away in Delhi on February 22, 1958.
November 11 is observed to celebrate the work done by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in the education sector.In 1920 he was elected as member of the foundation committee to establish Jamia Millia Islamla at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He also helped in shifting the University Campus from Aligarh to New Delhi in 1934.The main gate of University campus is named after him.
Azad's primary focus as First Education Minister post independence was educating the rural poor and girls.He had also focused on Adult literacy, universal primary education, vocational training, secondary education diversification,free and compulsory for all the children up to the age of 14.
While addressing All India Education Conference on 16 January 1948 he said that It is a birthright of every individual to receive the best basic education in which he cannot discharge his duties as a citizen. He also kept an eye on the establishment of the first Indian Institute of technology in 1951,Department of Education of the University of Delhi and the University grants commission in 1953.
Every School in India need to conduct discussions on life achievements, themed and Cultural programs related to birth anniversary, seminars, debates, teachings and achievements of Abdul Kalam Azad. Discussing the current problems in the Indian Education System help to come up with possible solutions to these problems.
