Sikkim Government announces to reopen Educational Institutions from June 15

The Sikkim Government has announced that Schools, Colleges and other Educational Institutions will re-open on June 15. Sikkim state has not reported any Covid-19 cases till now. Sikkim Government Education Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha said that the Government has taken the decision to re-open schools by taking into the importance of Higher Secondary Classes and Examinations.

Both Government and Private Schools will start functioning from June 15th onwards. Classes for 9 to 12 will resume as according to the guidelines issued regarding Covid-19. Classes for Nursery to 8 will remain suspended until further orders. All Schools will remain open on Saturdays also.

Meanwhile, Online Education will continue in Sikkim as usual and the daily assembling of schools will remain suspended for this academic session. The Minister also said that The Sikkim Government will give utmost importance to Education and the department is trying to reach out to students within and outside the Sikkim State.

The Classes for College and University students will be held in two shifts by duly adhering to guidelines such as Social Distancing, Regular hand sanitizing, etc issued by the Central government. The Annual examinations will be postponed to February 2021 so that the students will focus more on studies.

The District Administrations in Sikkim will be asked to hand over the schools after duly disinfecting and sanitizing them before June 10 as some of the schools have been converted to Quarantine Centers.Students who are residing in inter-state borders and are studying in Sikkim will be advised to make an arrangement to stay in Sikkim. After the quarantine period they could attend the classes.
