Over
74.3% of Indian Teachers still use Homework assignments as a top assessment
tool to evaluate students. As according to latest national achievement survey
report for Classes 3, 5 and 8. Only 24.3% of Teachers depend on Project based
or experiential learning methods to assess the performance of students in
class.

with 93%, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana with 92% and Uttarakhand with 91% are
the top states in which teachers assess the performance of student on the basis
of homework assignments.
In
Karnataka 83% of teachers prefer Home Work Assignments but at the same time 39%
of teachers will give importance to experiential learning or project-based
works. Tamilnadu with 67%, Puducherry with 53%, Andhra Pradesh with 45%,
Tripura with 42% and Odisha with 40% are giving more preference to
project-based works and experiential learning process methods.
It
is very much essential to have a proper plan to implement curriculum for
classes with wide variety of teaching methods to explore knowledge for children.
The time period for experiential learning needs to be increased in class rooms
to make learning fun and interactive.
As
according to survey, the classroom assessment for students depends on regular oral
and written tests. As according to the National council of Educational Research
and Training (NCERT) schools should not prescribe any subjects other than
Mathematics and language for lower primary classes (i.e. for class1 and class 2).
For classes 4 and 5 EVS and Mathematics are preferred.
As
according to orders by ministry of human resource and development on school bags
weights, The weight of bags for students of class 1 and class 2 should not
exceed 1.5 kg, while for classes 3,4 and 5 the weight should be in between 2 kg
and 3 kg. For classes 6 and 7 the weight should not exceed 4 kg. For classes 8
and 9 the weight should not exceed 4.5 kg and finally for class 10 the weight
should not exceed more than 5 kg.
