Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani aims to offer Skill Development training for Engineering students under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushalya Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme. It is expected around 10 lakh students will get benefited from this scheme in coming three years.
Under this initiation program Engineering and Polytechnic institutions in the country which are AICTE approved have been directed to accord the best possible quality education to the students along with the best utilization of skill development training in "off hours".

During the academic year 2015-16 Initially 25 students each from 500 institutions are being trained in Skill Development program.Next year the number of colleges will be increased to 1000 and from each college 100 students will be trained.During the academic year 2017-18 100 students each from 5000 colleges will be trained.
In this manner 10 lakh students will be trained from various engineering and polytechnic colleges across the country in next 3 years.The costs incurred for this Skill Development Training program will be incurred by HRD Ministry.The costs include Maintenance of Faculty, Trainers fees, Placement and Post-placement
