Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in Rajyasabha that Over 85 lakh students have benefited from scholarship schemes meant for the youth from the minority communities during the last fiscal.He also said that the government is also running multi media campaigns to aware students and spread about the various schemes that are available for minority communities . He replied to questions pertaining to measures taken by the government on all such schemes.

From 2015-16 students can apply online under simplified procedure to seek benefits under the different schemes by submitting self-declaration/self-certification and self-attested documents in respect to religion certificate,annual family income and mark sheets etc. He also added the scholarships are required to be disbursed under direct benefit transfer(DBT) mode to bank accounts of students.
The objective of Minority Welfare Scholarship scheme is to award
scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker
sections of minority community so as to provide them better
opportunities for higher education, increase their rate of attainment in
higher education and enhance their employability.

As according to ministry of Minority affairs the Indian government's pre-matric, post-matric and merit cum means based scholarships benefited a total of
74,96,593, 9,05,818 and 1,38,770 students (totaling 85,41,181)
respectively during that fiscal year.
