According to Ministry of Education report titled Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) on school education in India Over 20,000 schools across the country were shut down during 2020-21 and the number of teachers also declined by 1.95% compared to previous year.

UDISE+ has also notified that only 44.85% of schools has computer facilities and 34% had internet connection. Total number of schools in 2021-22 are 14.89 lakh when compared to 15.09 lakh in 2020-21. Only 27% of schools has special toilets for children with special needs (CSWN) and over 49% of schools have ramps with handrails.
The enrollment of primary to higher secondary was around 25.57 crore in 2020-21. This is higher by 19.36 lakh when compared to enrollment in 2020-21. The total number of teachers in 2021-22 was 95.07 lakh and the total number of teachers in 2020-21 was 97.87 lakh .This number shows the gradual decrease of teachers. The Percentage of Primary teachers was 34.4m in 2021-22 where as it was 35.4m in 2020-21.The Percentage of upper primary teachers was 18.9m in 2021-22 where as it was 21.5m in 2020-21.
The total decrease of teachers in government schools was 0.9 % during 2021-22. ,1.45% in government aided schools and 2.94% in private schools and 8.3% in other schools.In UDISE+ 2021-22 , additional data collected for first time on various important indicators like peer learning, digital library, hard spot identification number, number of books available in school library as according to the National Education Policy 2020 initiatives.
