The Finnish Model of Education - The New Generation Learning Experience Model for Students

In India, School Children wake up early and rush to schools and learn from their teachers and complete the homework when they come back home. But this scenario is changing slowly with the Finnish Model of education in India.

 

The Finnish Model Education System

The Finnish Model Education system is different from the standardized ones and is slowly gaining transformationl in India . The government appointed experts and agencies draw up a curriculum, Teachers teach from set books and students learn it by heart and assessed through hours long exams.

The Finnish Model of  Education believes in learning by doing and students are taught using practical methods. It focuses on exploring students interests and likes well-being in their holistic growth along with learning. This model gives students a chance to explore more and learn counting and calculations by using patterns and shapes.

There is flexibility in the Finnish Model with day to day curriculum, day plans and lesson plans.that makes it more effective. We have to understand that each child is unique and requirements of each child is also different. Students are assessed in many ways to ensure real learning is happenning. 

One more important factor in this education system is teacher training as they will have power to implement theoretical approach on various aspects and equipped to customize it as per the requirement of their classes so that it helps and improves students learning curve to learn technology, environment and other creative ways in an easy way. 

Teachers are playing an important role in learning process and it is important to tailor teaching to different kinds of students. Teacher training program will give a great deal of understanding the model so that the teacher is at peace and not burdened with responsibilities and targets.

The Finnish Model is purely student-centered, multidisciplinary model of learning believes in providing the experential learning along with the concept of phenomenol based learning which enables students to learn by doing. It helps students in developing the Skill building Competencies to face real-world future challenges and issues.

In this model of education unlike traditional education students will start their day related to the learning areas which will help them to explore about them, their community, environment, language, literacy, numeracy, growth and development. 

These activities are followed by snacks, nap time and play periods while making them learn. Apart from these activities like Cooking and Mindfullness are also included in the curriculum during the week. Language, Literacy and Numeracy Topics are mandate everyday.

The Finnish Model of Education doesn't skip any basics and there is no exams or tests are held.  This Education model helps students to avoid exam anxiety and stress. Instead students are allowed to learn basic concepts through a practical approachStudents are observed on a daily basis and the overall well being information regarding is shared to parents. 

Quarterly reports are also prepared by the teachers to observe all key laerning areas of the student during the period. Students are allowed to learn and grasp the concepts on their own pace. The progress is measured through document reviews, observations, rubrics and quizzes.
