Too much screen time on Digital Electronic devices causes visionary problems among students

Online Education plays a vital role in this pandemic era. It is considered as a flexible delivery system that encompasses learning aspects via internet  with a schedule and at own pace.Even though there are lot of advantages there are still some issues in this process too. Growing use of various digital devices is causing vision problems among school and college students.

Digital Eye Strain

Students are facing problems like Refractive Error and Digital Eye Strain problems during long time spending on digital electronic devices for their online courses. In a survey among 247 students, 79 (32%) students were diagnosed with Refractive Error of eyes.The normal trend is about 10-15%. Refractive Error leads to blurred vision.The most common symptom we can find in Refractive Error is Headache this can further lead to Digital Eye Strain.

In an other survey done by the researchers among 217 students,109 students were suffering from Digital Eye Strain. Among which 26% were mild, 13% were moderate and 11% were severely suffering from Digital Eye Strain. The most common symptoms we can find  in Digital Eye Strain is Itching and Headaches.

The average time spent using various digital electronic devices had increased after schools and colleges were shut due to Covid-19 Pandemic situation. Almost 36% of students are spending more than 5 hours a day for oneline e-learning activities. There is a great risk of suffering Digital Eye Strain problem significantly for those who spend 4-5 hours per day on various digital electronic devices.

A series of in-office and home based excercises (Vision theraphy) over a period of time with special glasses, Computer assisted vision programs, filters and prisms can help students in preventing the symptoms from Digital Eye Strain that improves the eye focusing, coordination and tracking if detected at an early stage..
