The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has issued detailed guidelines on Online Classes and recommended on-screen time capping for students. HRD Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that an Online Session of up to 30 Minutes will be conducted to Pre-Primary Children under the guidance of parents. Students of Classes 1-8 two online sessions of up to 30-45 Minutes will be held and for students of Classes 9-12, online synchronous learning activities may be undertaken but not more than four sessions should be held.
HRD Ministry has also said that the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted millions of children's studies in the country. Ministry has also provided guidelines for Teachers and School Heads. Teachers play an important role in a student's life. It is very much important for them to communicate both verbally and non verbally to students. They can make it happen by means of various digital platforms. It is the responsibility of the Teacher to take care of the physical and mental status of students.
HRD Ministry also suggested schools to conduct the survey to identify the facilities available at home for students for quality teaching-learning and assessment. This data will be very much helpful to prepare Infrastructure connectivity facilities along with various plans which ensure quality mode of online teaching facilities, communication, new learning methods, and the necessary support required for the student.
The orientation of Teachers and students should happen by means of digital technology for teaching-learning assessment between them. School heads to assign on two to three hours of online activity for teachers rather than engaging six to eight hours a day for teaching. School heads need to focus on exploring, creating, and sharing the learning resources with students and parents. It is advisable to provide an overview of the upcoming topics along with a recap of previous topics. The e-Content should be shared with both students and parents and guide them during the process.
Class-wise instant messaging groups need to be created for better communication with teachers, parents, and students. Teachers need to set clear learning and realistic goals for better student interaction regarding the topics. A detailed Systematic time table with complete details of activities to be performed for the day need to prepared for each and every class. It is very much important for the teacher to focus on improving the acquisition of life skills required for a student. Keeping the overall development of activities required teachers should recommend the screen time for students.
