SIGMA Group launches helpline to help lock-down hit workers to find new jobs

A Group of Students from IITs, IIMs, and other reputed Institutions have created a  group called Students for Involved Governance and Mutual action (SIGMA) and launched an Online pilot project and a helpline number to help workers who lost their jobs during the lockdown period of the Covid-19 Pandemic situation.

Job Search

SIGMA group is being assisted by Abhishek Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi, and Bureaucrat Durga Shakti Nagpal. The helpline 8800883323  "ekatra" was conceptualized by the student's group to help Unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers across Delhi-NCR.

The Helpline number will be available from 10 AM to 7 PM every day. Student Volunteers will attend the calls from various employers and also from workers to collect the necessary requirements and information. This will also help to create a database to connect appropriate skilled workers to companies. Most of the industries in large cities are facing the manpower problem to resume their operations.

The nationwide lockdown had a serious impact on the livelihoods of the workers. Many of them lost their jobs in this tough period. Students together form a group and planned to help local and migrant workers to find suitable employment. This attempt will not only help workers to find their convenient work but also helps industries in providing the necessary manpower.

SIGMA aims to simplify the job search process so as to match the labour demand-supply. This group has already reached out to various manufacturing and construction sector employers to identify the manpower requirements. They found these companies are having more than 250 vacancies on various categories based on industry demand and urgency. The main objective of this group is to build a technology platform which acts as a platform between different businesses and workers
