The University Grants Commission (UGC) has submitted guidelines to HRD Minister Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank regarding the Examination Schedules, Academic and Calendar schedules information for Universities. In the submitted guidelines UGC has suggested conducting examinations for Final Semester of Final Year Students only in the month of July.
The assessment of students apart from the final semester will be graded based on the previous and present semester internal assessments and performance. The UGC committee has also requested the universities to apply innovative mode of conducting examinations and assessing students performance. Even the duration of the examinations should also be reduced from three hours to two hours.
If in case the situation doesn't back to normal 50 percent of marks can be graded on the basis of internal evaluation like preliminary examinations, Mid-semester examinations and other valuation procedures. Remaining 50 percent of marks can be awarded based on the performance of previous semester if available.
For the students in remaining semesters Examinations will be conducted after the situation gets better.How ever several precautions need to be taken before conducting the examinations by checking the preparedness of the students for examinations and their residential status because of the wide spread of Covid-19 in different parts of the states.
HRD Minister said that Extension of 6 months will be given to both MPhil and PhD students. The universites will have a provision to conduct the examinations by online means like Skype or Meeting apps. To address various issues arised due to caronavirus a special Covid-19 Cell will be created in each and every university that helps to resolve student queries related to academic, calendar and Examination schedules.
