Ministry of Education and Literacy of Jharkhand government has decided to Improve the literacy rate of girls in the state by providing Free textbooks,Uniforms and Note books to all girl students for the academic year 2016 who are studying classes 9,10,11 and 12 on Jharkhand schools.The Government aims to encourage and motivate girls to achieve their dreams and makes their life successful by providing necessary things for their educational needs.

As according to reports this is the First state in the country to take the initiative of imparting female education and benefit around 1 million girl children who are studying in government high schools in Jharkhand. through various education schemes to all classes.Earlier students of Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes who are under below poverty line and are studying in classes up to 8th were getting Free textbooks,uniforms and note books from the Central Governments Sarva Siksha Abhiyan(SSA).
The Funds required for running this scheme would be given to government schools by School Management Committees(SMC) every year by the state government .Under this scheme each and every girl student will be provided Two sets of uniform ,Rs 750 for Notebooks and Rs 950 for Textbooks. The state also has constructed women colleges and hostels in 76 blocks of 11 districts in the state.CM's Vidya Laxmi Yojna a Fixed deposit scheme for girls has also been launched to reduce the drop outs of girls from the schools.
