India's First Non Medical Government college R.G Kar Medical College and hospital,Kolkata which celebrates centenary celebrations with its achievements with a formal function and scientific sessions from December 19 onwards said organizers.

Nilanjan Ghosh the secretary of the centennial celebrations and on alumni said to media that " we will hold the 83rd reunion and the 100th anniversary celebrations from December 19th onwards and after several transformations and change of address, in 196 ,Belgachhia Medical college was inaugurated by previous Governor of Bengal Lord Carmichael.
The
history of the hospital goes back to 1886 when the Calcutta School of
Medicine was set up by Radha Gobinda kar along with other doctors ,
after he returned from England with degrees of medicine.In 1948, the institute was renamed as R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. After 10 years the Bengal government took over the medical college.
In the Centenary celebrations Renowned cardiologist Devi Shetty will speak on Latest Innovations in Healthcare delivery. The concluding programme will be held on December 23.Ghosh said "The College will spearhead full fledged research, a virology research centre is in the works.A trauma care centre will also come up soon."
